COLUMBIA, SC - Tutelage School Solutions is proud to announce its partnership with Davidson Charter Academy (DCA) following unanimous approval from the North Carolina Charter Schools Review Board (CSRB) during its recent meeting in Raleigh, NC. The unanimous vote reflected strong confidence in Tutelage’s ability to step in, make an immediate impact, and help move DCA forward.
CSRB Member Eric Sanchez noted during the meeting that Tutelage’s application was “refreshing” and “simply better” than those the Board typically reviews from similar groups. CSRB Member Lindalyn Kakadelis also expressed her excitement about Tutelage expanding into North Carolina, noting her familiarity with the successes in South Carolina.
Through this partnership, Tutelage will work alongside Davidson Charter Academy to support the school’s continued growth and academic success, with the shared goal of helping DCA become the top-performing school in Davidson County. Tutelage will provide comprehensive support in areas including academics, operations, finance, human resources, marketing and communications, enrollment and long-term strategic planning.
Located in Lexington, NC, Davidson Charter Academy is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in grades K-8th. Since opening its doors in 2017, DCA has remained committed to providing families with a high-quality education in a small-school environment where students are known, challenged and supported.
The partnership comes at an exciting time for DCA as the school builds on recent academic progress and looks toward its next chapter of growth. For Tutelage, it also represents an important milestone. DCA is the first North Carolina school that TSS has partnered with, officially marking the organization’s expansion into North Carolina.
“This partnership represents an exciting step forward for DCA,” said Amanda Whitaker, board chair for DCA. “Our Board is committed to building on the strong foundation already in place at DCA and continuing to raise the bar for our students. Tutelage brings the experience, resources and proven track record to help us do that, and we are excited about what this partnership will mean for the future of our school and the families we serve.”
Tutelage School Solutions currently partners with six operating public charter schools serving more than 4,000 students across South Carolina, with eight additional approved charter schools in the pipeline. Through its comprehensive education management model, TSS works alongside school boards and leaders to provide the academic, operational and organizational support needed to build strong, sustainable schools and expand access to high-quality public education.
Schools supported by Tutelage have earned a growing list of local, state, and national awards and recognitions. Cherokee Charter Academy was named the recipient of the 2023 Innovative Academic Excellence Award by the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina. The school was also named as the “Best School in Cherokee County” by the Gaffney Ledger’s 2025 Golden Peach Awards. Lastly, the school was recognized as a top charter school in the nation by Education Insider in 2026.
Other schools have claimed top awards as well, including Libertas Academy Boiling Springs being named a Gold School of Excellence, placing it among the top 25 percent of South Carolina middle schools in English Language Arts, as well as Year One Trailblazer Award. Libertas Academy Colleton was voted the “Best School in Colleton County” in the 2025-26 Press and Standard Best of the Best Awards. Tutelage looks forward to bringing this same level of commitment to excellence to its partnership with Davidson Charter Academy.
“We have seen what is possible when great schools have the right support, resources and people behind them,” said Tony Helton, CEO of Tutelage School Solutions. “Davidson Charter Academy has tremendous potential, and we are excited to work alongside its Board, leadership and staff to build on the progress already being made. Our goal is to help DCA continue raising the bar and ultimately become the top-performing school in Davidson County.”
As Tutelage expands into North Carolina, the organization remains focused on the mission that has guided its work across South Carolina: partnering with schools and communities to raise the standard for public education and create brighter futures for students, regardless of zip code.
